Finalists have been revealed for the 38th annual Festival of New Musicals, which will be held October 22-23 at New World Stages.
The National Alliance for Musical Theatre presents the festival annually, staging a handful of musicals currently in development in 45-minute concert presentations attended by hundreds of producers, presenters, artistic and executive directors, investors, donors, developers, and creative administrators from regional theatre, Broadway, music, film, and television. As a non-profit organization, NAMT funds the Festival entirely through donations, sponsorships and contributions which underwrite all production costs. Previous musicals staged in the festival include Come From Away, Lempicka, Ordinary Days, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and more.
This year’s new musicals include Black Girl in Paris, with a book and lyrics by AriDy Nox and music by Jacinth Greywoode; BLUDLINE: A Hip-Hop Odyssey with a book, music, and lyrics by Fermin Suero, Jr. and Pete White; The (Disaster) Marathon of 1904 with a book by Tyler Joseph Ellis and music and lyrics by Jacob Ryan Smith and Dan Mertzlufft; Fouad of Nazareth with a book, music, and lyrics by Fouad Dakwar; How to Play the Cello (Until You Don’t) with a book, music, and lyrics by Benjamin Emory Larson; Love of a Lifetime with a book, music, and lyrics by Lara Flip; The Ramayan with a book, music, and lyrics by Manik Choksi; and Sunwatcher with a book and additional music by Isabella Dawis and music by Tidtaya Sinutoke.
Creative teams and casting for each musical, as well as further festival programming, will be revealed at a later date.
