We’ve Been Here Before: A One-Woman Musical has set a New York premiere at Off-Broadway’s SoHo Playhouse, with performances scheduled for August 4-17.
The work tracks a 40-year-old woman going through a mid-life “awakening,” which includes a sudden urge to become a songwriter while fostering a relationship with a secret online confidant. The piece has been written by and will star Lindsey Kraft (Grace and Frankie, The Shrink Next Door).
But Kraft will be joined by some heavy hitters. Serving as the musical’s music director will be Ben Folds, the Emmy-nominated pianist and songwriter behind alternative rock group Ben Folds Five. The group’s album’s include Whatever and Ever Amen, Naked Baby Photos, and The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner, with popular songs including “Brick,” “Army,” and “Song for the Dumped.”
Folds, who is also producing this premiere, will back Kraft during performances as an onstage musician, alongside Dan Rudin.
Kraft and Machel Ross are co-directing.
