NY State Police pull driver off I-81 after inspection reveals 26 violations

  • July 9, 2026

CICERO, New York (WWNY) – A commercial truck and trailer were impounded on Interstate 81 Wednesday after a New York State Police inspection uncovered 26 violations, including defective brakes and falsified driver logs, troopers said.

Members of the Troop D Traffic Incident Management Unit and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit stopped a 2023 Dodge pickup towing a 2024 Buckeye flatbed trailer around 3:45 p.m. on July 8 in the town of Cicero after troopers observed the vehicle was not displaying required U.S. Department of Transportation identification markings.

What troopers found

The driver, Dmitrii Timofeev, 39, of Brooklyn, told troopers he had picked up a vehicle from an auction and was transporting it to a customer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Troopers determined the commercial truck was unregistered and uninsured. The trailer displayed a temporary Ohio registration that had expired in 2025. Timofeev was also found to be operating the vehicle in violation of restrictions on his New York driver’s license.

A Level II Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection identified 26 violations in total. Four of those were classified as out-of-service violations. The violations included defective brakes, false driver’s logs, and licensing restriction violations.

Prior violations, active warrants

Troopers also determined Timofeev has an extensive history of commercial motor vehicle out-of-service violations across multiple states. He also had non-extraditable warrants from Idaho and Arkansas related to previous commercial motor vehicle violations.

Timofeev was issued numerous Uniform Traffic Tickets. The truck and trailer were placed out of service and impounded.

New York State Police said enforcement efforts like the Cicero stop are intended to prevent crashes and remove unsafe vehicles from the road.
