ONEONTA, N.Y. (WBNG) — An Oneonta man drove his impounded SUV off of the lot, damaging the auto shop’s property, according to New York State Police.
On July 8, 20-year-old Isaiah Izrael Owens-Chamorro’s 2018 Chevrolet Trax was impounded at Thetford’s Auto Shop on Keith Street in the Town of Oneonta.
He asked permission to get some belongings from his vehicle at the tow yard, but instead, drove the car off of the property without paying the tow bill, police said. In the process, he damaged a gate.
Troopers found Owens-Chamorro driving down State Route 23 and stopped him. Police towed the car back to Thetford’s Auto Shop.
State Police arrested Owens-Chamorro and charged him with felony criminal mischief. He will appear in town court on August 4.
