Mixue opened its doors on July 1 at 41-01 Kissena Blvd. in Flushing. Since then, its popularity has skyrocketed. This Chinese-originated fast food chain is widely known for its vanilla soft serve, bubble tea and fruit teas and arrived to a lot of excitement in the neighborhood.

Mixue is a food chain that originated in Zhengzhou, China. It’s popular for its cheap prices, including a vanilla soft serve for $1.19 and $2 lemonade in the U.S. According to allrecipes.com, Mixue has surpassed McDonald’s and Starbucks location numbers. Mixue has 48,000 stores globally, while McDonald’s and Starbucks are at have 42,000 and 43,000, respectively.
Mixue’s prices are so cheap because they own their entire supply chain. Yahoo Finance says, “Controlling everything from the agricultural source to the cold-chain logistics allows the company to supply over 1 billion global franchise locations with significantly reduced distribution cost.”

When something becomes popular, there’s a tendency of long lines, and Mixue is no different, especially with the heat wave that started on July 1. With the Flushing community looking to cool down with cheap ice cream, the lines were over 30 minutes long, and to this day still remain that way as the neighborhood enters the heart of summer.

Zaya, a young girl who waited on the 30-minute line, was happy once she came out with her matcha-flavored ice cream and told QNS her sweet treat was worth the wait.
“Yes it is, the line goes really quickly so it doesn’t take much time.,” she said. “The only thing is they kind of messed up my order a little bit, they didn’t give it to me, so I had to wait a little longer than I had to, but I really like it and I would come back.”

Users on the Flushing Foodie Instagram page’s comments, wrote about how packed the corner on Kissena Boulevard would be and commented on how tight the place is.
One user said, “I went today and waited 30 mins. It was kinda chaotic inside also. I hope they can fix the entrance with a ramp since that doesn’t look ADA accessible.”
Another user said, “Looks like a super tight space. max 20 people… they should have put it at less traffic area.”
