The Rockaway Rocket is returning to the New York City’s waterways for a limited time starting Saturday.
The $12-per-ride NYC Ferry route will take riders directly from Long Island City and Greenpoint to Rockaway Beach in approximately 80 minutes. Tickets must be purchased at least 15 minutes before departure through the NYC Ferry app.

One morning and one afternoon departure will leave from Long Island City and Greenpoint while the route is operational, with two later afternoon return trips from Rockaway Beach.

NYC Ferry’s normal Rockaway-Soundview route — traveling between the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Rockaway — will continue to operate throughout the summer. However, due to high demand on weekends, some vessels may skip some stops, the ferry says.
“Due to high demand, supplemental beach service is running on weekends. Depending on the time, some vessels serve all stops, while others only run between Rockaway, Sunset Park and Wall Street,” NYC Ferry said on its website.
Tickets for the regular ferry route can be purchased through the NYC Ferry app or any NYC Ferry dock for $4.50 one way. Frequent riders can also purchase a 10-trip pass for $29, or an unlimited 2-day pass for $15.
For riders wishing to secure a spot on select ferries, NYC Ferry will continue to offer Rockaway Reserve tickets through Sept. 13 for $12 each. These tickets can be purchased up to two weeks in advance of a choose departure for ferries departing only from the Wall St./Pier 11 and Rockaway ferry slips.
