UPDATE Former Commanding Officer of 52nd Precinct Arrested for Attempted Rape

Former commanding officer of the 52nd Precinct, Jeremy Scheublin, an inspector, and later of the 46th Precinct, has been arrested and charged with attempted rape and other offenses, the Office of the Bronx District Attorney announced Friday, July 10.

The NYPD also announced Friday that at around 7.10 a.m. on Friday, Scheublin, 45, was arrested while off-duty and was charged within the confines of the 46th Precinct. He had previously been removed from his position as commanding officer of the 46th Precinct.

According to the NYPD, the department’s internal affairs bureau investigated the case and then referred it to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office in January 2025. The District Attorney’s criminal investigation remains ongoing. According to the NYPD, Scheublin was “transferred” in January 2026. Norwood News has asked where he was transferred to and will share any updates we receive.

We received the following statement from the NYPD on the matter: “We hold our police officers to the highest standards and have zero tolerance for misconduct of any kind. The NYPD conducts thorough investigations into any allegation that a member of the department failed to meet those standards — and that’s exactly what happened here. The NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau investigated these deeply troubling claims and referred this case to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.”

According to the criminal complaint, in the first count, the defendant is accused of attempted rape in the first degree, and allegedly on or about Jan. 1, 2025, in the County of the Bronx, allegedly “did attempt to engage in vaginal sexual contact with a person known to the grand jury by forcible compulsion.”

In the second count, he is also accused  of sexual abuse in the first degree, and is alleged, on or about Jan. 1, 2025, to have subjected a person known to the grand jury to sexual contact by forcible compulsion.”

According to the criminal complaint, in the third count, Scheublin is accused of assault in the second degree, and it is alleged that on or about Jan. 1, 2025, “in the course of and in furtherance of the commission or attempted commission of a felony,” that he did cause “physical injury to a person known to the grand jury who was not a participant in the crime.”

According to the criminal complaint, in the fourth count, Scheublin is accused of assault in the third degree, and it is alleged that on or about Jan. 1, 2025, in The Bronx, “with intent to cause physical injury,” he allegedly “caused such injury to a person known to the grand jury.”

According to the criminal complaint, in the fifth count, Scheublin is accused of “unlawful imprisonment in the second degree,’ and it is alleged that on or about Jan. 1, 2025, in the County of The Bronx, he allegedly “did restrain a person known to the grand jury.”

According to the criminal complaint, in the sixth count, Scheublin is accused of forcible touching, and it is alleged that on or about Jan. 1, 2025, in the County of The Bronx, he allegedly “did intentionally and for no legitimate purpose, forcibly touch the sexual or other intimate parts of a person known to the grand jury, for the purpose of degrading or abusing that person for the purpose of gratifying the defendant’s sexual desire.”

According to the criminal complaint, in the seventh count, Scheublin is accused of official misconduct and it is alleged that on or about Jan. 1, 2025, in the County of The Bronx, “being a public servant, to wit, a member of the NYPD, with intent to obtain or deprive another person of a benefit, did commit an act relating to his office but constituting an unauthorized exercise of his official functions, knowing that such act was unauthorized.”

According to the criminal complaint, in the eighth count, Scheublin is accused of “obstructing governmental administration in the second degree” and it is alleged that on or about Jan. 2, 2025, in the County of the Bronx, Scheublin allegedly “did intentionally obstruct, impair, or pervert or attempt to prevent a public servant from performing an official function by means of intimidation, physical force, or interference, or by means of an independently unlawful act.”

As reported, Deputy Inspector Asif Iqbal was recently appointed as the new commanding officer of the 52nd Precinct, which covers some or all of the north Bronx neighborhoods of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham, Kingsbridge Heights, University Heights, along with Bronx Park.

Deputy Inspector Juan Moran is the current commanding officer of the 46th Precinct which covers the Fordham, University Heights, Morris Heights and Mount Hope neighborhoods. When Norwood News asked at the time for details of why Scheublin was no longer commanding officer of the 46th Precinct, we did not receive an immediate response from the NYPD.

Scheublin is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law. Norwood News has reached out to Scheublin for comment and will share any updates we receive.

As reported, NYPD Assistant Chief Benjamin Gurley, pictured above with Scheublin during a 2023 meeting in Kingsbridge Heights, was placed on desk duty following an off-duty shooting in Rockland County.

The New York Post has reported that the other person involved in the alleged attempted rape is an NYPD officer.
