If you didn’t already know, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce tied the knot last weekend at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
A long list of A-list celebrities attended the wedding, and the lead-up generated plenty of buzz. The couple blocked off an entire city street and hired additional security for the event.
After some concerns from New York City residents about whether the wedding would impact taxpayers, Mayor Zohran Mamdani revealed Friday that Swift covered the costs associated with public safety personnel, event coverage, and blocking off an entire street. The permit totaled more than $160,000.
“Taylor Swift will be paying … has paid already the cost of the permit that was lodged, which was over $160,000 for that event and for the response to that event,” Mamdani said. “That was a permit that was finalized, I think, in just the days before the event itself.”
Swift and Kelce took over the city for about 48 hours. They held their rehearsal dinner on Thursday night, which is when the attention surrounding the event really started to build. The wedding followed on Friday, with the couple making it official in the early evening when a sign lit up Madison Square Garden
The New York Post reported that the overall cost of the wedding was estimated to be around $30 million. The floral arrangements and decor alone accounted for roughly $5 million of that total.
That figure is $18 million more than Kelce is set to make as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2026 after re-signing with the organization for his 14th NFL season.
However, when you consider Swift’s estimated $2.1 billion net worth, a $30 million wedding — and especially a $160,000 payment to cover city costs — doesn’t seem like a significant expense for the couple.
