STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. —The iconic Magnolia Bakery, famed for its world-renowned banana pudding and classic American desserts, is bringing its sweet treats to Staten Island this fall with the opening of a new location at Hylan Commons in New Dorp — its first-ever bakery in the borough.
The new shop will occupy space in the retail center at the corner of Hylan Boulevard and New Dorp Lane. The lease has been confirmed, though an exact opening date has not been publicly announced.
The West Village bakery, famous for its banana pudding, cupcakes and cameos in “Sex and the City” and “The Devil Wears Prada,” opened its first location in 1996 at 401 Bleecker Street, where it still operates today.
The Staten Island location is part of a broader nationwide franchise expansion. The brand was acquired by RSE Ventures, a private equity and venture capital firm, in 2021.
Prior to the acquisition, former CEO Steve Abrams had announced plans in 2018 to add 200 new locations across the country. The Hylan Commons location is one of five new brick-and-mortar stores that will join 19 operating locations.
Sara Gramling, head of public relations for the bakery, confirmed the Hylan Commons location in an email.
“[It] will be locally owned and operated by Staten Island residents Ereny Ghobrial and Edward Agamy,” Gramling wrote. “[And] will serve the same freshly-baked, classic American desserts that our fans know and love.”
Staten Islanders can expect the bakery’s signature menu, including its iconic banana pudding and cupcakes, as well as cookies, cakes and cheesecakes. The bakery also offers nationwide shipping, local pickup, catering and custom desserts.
