New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed this week that Taylor Swift has already fully covered the costs associated with the police presence during her Jul. 3 wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden.
Addressing reporters during a press conference on Friday, Mamdani disclosed that the singer paid the city more than $160,000 for a security permit. The disclosure came in response to questions regarding who was responsible for the significant police overtime required to manage the massive crowds and security logistics surrounding the high-profile event.
When asked if the city would be seeking reimbursement for the police presence, Mamdani laughed before clarifying that the bill had already been settled. He explained that the $160,000 fee covered the event itself as well as the city’s broader response to it. He noted that the permit was finalized in the days immediately preceding the wedding, a standard requirement for private events that necessitate street closures or additional municipal services.
This is not the first time the Mayor has publicly addressed the logistical impact of the star-studded wedding. In the weeks leading up to the ceremony, Mamdani spoke to the press about the NYPD’s operational readiness for a “perfect storm” of major events, which included the World Cup, the Knicks’ championship run, the Fourth of July holiday, and the Swift-Kelce nuptials.
