Two Section VII high school boys’ soccer squads are still dancing in the New York state tournament. Northeastern Clinton High School (NCCS) boys’ soccer is one of those teams after outlasting the Section II champions, Greenville High School, 1-0 in the opening round of the Class B state tournament. “Just a great feeling, you know, having the chance to make to the Final Four if we win the next one … Just keep them coming,” said Northeastern Clinton senior goalie Ben Bresnahan. Bresnahan picked up his third straight shutout of the postseason for a young Cougars team, which seems to get better and better game by game. He credited the strong play of his defense, deflecting multiple shot opportunities and pass attempts away from the Spartans to help make his job easier in net. “They kept trying to connect on passes, but our guys were right there,” Bresnahan said. “It was great, didn’t have to do much tonight.” Evias Carpenter scored the Cougars’ lone goal of the game, after a chaotic scrum at the net led to a loose ball where only Carpenter tracked it down, scoring the game-winning goal for NCCS. Northern Adirondack High School boys’ soccer joined NCCS with a state playoff win after taking down the Section X champions, Lisbon High School in a rematch of 2024’s penalty kick regional semifinals. The Bobcats took the Golden Knights to double overtime, where a game-winning corner kick by Jack Earl deflected off of Lisbon’s goalkeeper and into the back of the net for the 3-2 victory. Beekmantown High School fell short of a state tournament playoff win in the Class A bracket after a 2-1 loss against Glens Falls High School. Dylan Brown was able to tie this contest at 1-1 on a breakaway score in the second half, but two goals by John Tallon and Deklin Malison overwhelmed the Eagles down the stretch.
