The 49th Boilermaker is in the books, with thousands of runners taking part on Sunday.

“It was a fantastic day. We had 4,204 finishers in the 5K presented by Utica National, 33 wheelchairs and they all finished. We had 9,118 who finished the 15K presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield,” said Boilermaker Road Race Sponsor and Marketing Manager India Paschal.

Each of those races did sell out, so looking ahead to next year, the 50th race, caps on participants will be raised. But there won’t be registration opportunities prior to January.

“The obvious message to folks who are interested in being a part of it next year is, mark your calendars now. Keep an eye on local media. Keep an eye on our social media. And also keep an eye on their emails to see if you’ve been a participant. We communicate directly to you via that,” said Boilermaker Road Race President Mark Donovan.

To make it happen, the Boilermaker always needs volunteers.

“What we need people to understand is [that] volunteering can be as simple as an hour slot at the expo all the way up to leadership positions that don’t take tremendous amounts of your time,” Donovan said.
