NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — As a heat wave descends upon the tri-state area, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that beach and certain pool hours will be extended.
Temperatures will climb into the upper 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday, with heat indices peaking at over 100 degrees.

Mayor Mamdani took to X to encourage New Yorkers to stay cool and hydrated and announced: “Beaches and pools are open. Hours at intermediate- and Olympic-sized pools are extended to 8:30 PM.”
While beach hours may be extended, New Yorkers should use caution, depending on where they go. Currently, there are 14 beaches with advisories across New York City.
Advisories may be issued for water quality concerns, the presence of pollutants, or sewage and wastewater discharge following heavy rainfall.
Beaches under advisories will have signage posted at the beach to notify visitors. If you do plan to visit one of the beaches below, look for the following:
Yellow sign: Swimming and wading are not recommended
Red sign: The beach is closed. Swimming and wading are now allowed
