It’s been a wild summer for New York City and by extension New York City–themed merch. The Knicks won the NBA championship for the first time since 1973, yielding tons of official and nonofficial tees, hats, posters, and other fan memorabilia. Then to celebrate the World Cup coming to New York, Mayor Zohran Mamdani enlisted artist Arsh Raziuddin to design NYC-inspired posters, water bottles, and the coolest soccer jerseys I have ever seen. And now the increasingly popular NYC Ferry, with routes from Manhattan to Governors Island and the Rockaways, is launching a collection of official merchandise, including T-shirts, tote bags, and dad hats. The collection will be available to buy online starting Friday, July 24 — until then, you can window-shop the newly launched NYC Ferry online store. The merch will also be available at on-board concession stands on Rockaways-bound ferries and East River ferries later this summer.
The NYC Ferry merch is minimally designed with a distinct nautical vibe. There’s a sweet little embroidered ferry, an illustrated map of the New York harbor, and two taglines — “The People’s Yacht” and “Take the Scenic Route” — printed on cream or navy tees, caps, and two canvas totes. Prices range from $25 to $40 with the exception of a “Take the Scenic Route” postcard that will cost just $3. This past June, the ferry set a new daily all-time ridership record with over 50,000 riders hopping on a boat on Saturday, June 20; that’s a lot of potential customers. Fortunately, the stuff isn’t limited edition, and every order will be printed on demand and delivered in about a week, so there should be enough for everyone.
