The village of Manhattan’s Young Entrepreneur Market will return for its fifth year on Saturday, with a record 57 young businesses set to participate, the village said.
The market will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Village Hall parking lot at 260 Market Place, Manhattan, according to a news release from the village.
A ceremonial ribbon cutting honoring all participating young entrepreneurs will take place at 9:50 a.m., before the market officially opens.
In the event of inclement weather, the market will be relocated indoors to Manhattan Junior High School at 15414 Smith Road, the village said.
Location changes will be posted on the village of Manhattan’s Facebook page and village website by Friday afternoon.
The market gives individuals 17 years old and younger the opportunity to sell handmade products, share their skills and showcase their talents, the village said.
The event is meant to connect youth in the area with the community while teaching business skills such as developing ideas, promoting products and interacting with customers, the village said.
This year’s event includes 26 returning young entrepreneurs, the village said. Of the 57 businesses, 16 young entrepreneurs are traveling from surrounding communities to participate.
“It has been amazing to watch these young entrepreneurs grow and gain confidence through this experience,” Mayor Mike Adrieansen said in the news release.
“Each year, the creativity, determination, and passion these young business owners bring to the market continues to impress us. This event is about more than selling products, it is about teaching valuable life skills, building confidence, and showing our youth that their ideas can make a difference,” Adrieansen said.
Each participating business receives a village of Manhattan Business License and an honorary membership with the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, the release said.
