UTICA, N.Y. — An updated air quality health advisory has been issued for Central New York and surrounding regions due to smoke from Canadian wildfires.
According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the State Department of Health, the Upper Hudson Valley and Adirondack regions are forecast to reach “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” status.
The Eastern Lake Ontario, Central New York and Western New York regions are forecast to reach “Very Unhealthy.” This includes Herkimer, Madison, Oneida and Otsego counties.
The advisory upgrade is for fine particulate matter and will last from 10 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on July 16.
