SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse University is receiving $1.5 million from New York State to replace windows at the Hall of Languages on campus.

The measure is part of a larger $42.6 million Higher Education Capital Matching Grant Program (HECap), awarded to 32 projects across nine colleges in New York as part of Governor Kathy Hochul’s effort to help strengthen higher education campuses. Projects awarded under the HECap include support for modernized learning spaces, critical infrastructure upgrades, and workforce training expansion.

“New York’s colleges and universities prepare the next generation of workers, innovators and leaders,” said Governor Kathy Hochul. “These investments will modernize campuses, strengthen workforce training opportunities and ensure students have access to learning environments that reflect the demands of today’s economy. By continuing to invest in higher education, we’re investing in New York’s future.”

Fordham University, Rochester General College of Health Careers, Columbia University, Barnard College, Hobart & William Smith Colleges, New York Medical College, Hamilton College, and New York Academy of Art are among the other colleges receiving state funds for the following improvement projects:

Fordham University, $5 million

Renovation of the Quinn Library

Rochester General College of Health Careers, $5 million

Renovations to the Innovation and Learning Center

Columbia University, $5 million

Replacement of the Chiller System at Columbia University Irving Medical Center

Barnard College, $3.3 million

Replacement of HVAC systems at three residence halls

Hobart & William Smith Colleges, $3 million

Construction of a science building and renovations to two adjacent science buildings

New York Medical College, $2.7 million

Renovations and construction at three sites

Hamilton College, $2 million

Renovation of the Russell Sage Ice Rink

New York Academy of Art, $1.65 million

Replacement of HVAC and lighting fixtures

Syracuse University is receiving the smallest portion of this particular round of grants. The university has been a receiver of HECap in previous years. Over $404 million has been awarded since the program’s inception in 2005.
