STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— Monsignor Farrell and Xavier High School may have played to a scoreless regular-season draw on Oct. 16, but Tuesday’s rematch for the CHSAA AA championship was action-packed, with the Lions claiming a 3–1 victory behind Thomas Garritano’s hat trick and a stout defensive effort to secure the city crown.
The evening was made even more remarkable as Farrell’s JV squad also captured their own championship title with a thrilling penalty shootout win over Saint Francis Prep— capping what varsity head coach Ed Hynes called an “extra special night.”
