The New York state Department of Environmental Conservation, state Department of Health and and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are set to host a meeting on Monday on the ongoing radiological assessment in Erie and Niagara counties.
Officials are expected to provide an update on the survey results to date, a look at what’s nextand to share with people how contamination is being addressed.
People will also be able to ask the DEC and EPA questions.
The community meeting is set for 5 p.m. Monday at the Niagara Falls Convention Center.
This topic is back in the spotlight after earlier this month, radioactive pollution was detected in the yards of at least 120 homes in Niagara County.
“We want residents to feel safe in their homes and have the certainty required to help give the assurances that they need to feel protected, and that’s why we wanted to be proactive here,” state Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Amanda Lefton said. “That’s why started on this path to begin with.”
