SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Drivers traveling through Syracuse should plan for delays this week as a busy interstate ramp closes for scheduled pavement repairs.
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) says the Interstate 81 northbound off-ramp to Interstate 690 westbound will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, July 20, and Tuesday, July 21.
The closure is needed to allow crews to complete pavement repairs.
During the closure, motorists will be directed to follow a signed detour:
Take Exit 22 (Court Street) from I-81 northbound.Continue north on Sunset Avenue.Head east on Court Street.Continue north on Lodi Street.Travel west on Bear Street to I-690 westbound.
NYSDOT notes that construction schedules are weather-dependent and could change if conditions warrant.
The department is reminding drivers to slow down and use caution in work zones. Speeding fines are doubled in active work zones, and drivers convicted of two or more work zone speeding violations could face the suspension of their driver’s license.
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time and follow posted detour signs while the repairs are underway.
