NEW YORK — A man was taken into custody after police said he started a fire outside 26 Federal Plaza, where flames spread before crews put them out short of the building.
The Lower Manhattan building houses dozens of federal agencies, including the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Law enforcement sources who spoke with NBC New York reported the man had a “Makeshift incendiary device” made of fireworks and a flammable liquid.
Early findings showed the suspect was also carrying two types of guns that appeared to be realistic-looking BB guns or airsoft guns.
Police said the person was believed to be a protester with a history of anti-ICE activity.
Firefighters confirmed four people suffered minor injuries.
