On July 16, 2026, troopers assigned to State Police Troop T, SP Albany, and Troop G Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested Kevin Phillips, 45, of Schenectady, for: 

Criminal possession of a weapon, 2nd degree – loaded firearmCriminal possession of a weapon, 3rd degree – previous convictionVehicle and traffic law violation

At approximately 4:19 a.m. on July 16, troopers with SP Albany conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle traveling southbound on the New York State Thruway (I-87) in the town of Guilderland for vehicle and traffic law violations. During the investigation, troopers discovered the operator, identified as Phillips, was illegally in possession of a loaded handgun. Further investigation discovered Phillips has a history of a previous felony conviction and cannot legally possess a firearm. 

Phillips was placed under arrest and transported to Troop T, SP Albany for processing. He was then arraigned at the Guilderland Town Court where he was released under the supervision of the Albany County Probation Department.
