Zoo New York in Watertown is set to receive $25,000 from the Jefferson County Visitor’s Investment Fund, which will go towards it’s Nature at Home Play Project, a “multifaceted visitor experience designed to connect families with nature in hands-on, meaningful ways.”
According to a press release, the project will transform the landscape surrounding the historic house on zoo grounds into an immersive educational space featuring gardens, interactive learning areas, nature play elements, and new programming opportunities.
“Zoo New York’s project exactly fits the purpose of the investment fund,” said Corey Fram, director of the 1000 Islands International Tourism Council. “The Conservancy’s creative proposal secured funding from a variety of sources and we’re pleased that the Visitors Investment Fund is positioned to join these worthwhile partners in boosting assets that provide visitors with a quality experience while serving residents as well.”
That is expected to be finshed by the end of this year and open up next year.
“This project is about creating new ways for guests to connect with the natural world,” said Mark Irwin, interim executive director of Zoo New York. “We are grateful to the 1000 Islands International Tourism Council and Jefferson County for recognizing the value of investing in experiences that serve both visitors and local families. The Nature at Home/Nature Play Project will help us continue growing as a place for education, conservation, recreation, and community connection.”
