A teenage boy from Poughkeepsie is dead after New York State Police say he drowned at a Rondout Creek swimming hole over the weekend.
State Police say Matthew Strahan, 15, slipped beneath the High Falls Waterfall in Marbletown on Sunday after entering the water that afternoon.
Police say people nearby tried to rescue him, but were unable.
A police recovery team pulled him from the water and attempted to save him as well.
Police say Strahan was brought to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared dead.
Similar drownings have taken place in the same general area in years past.
Authorities are still investigating this latest incident.
