New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) constructed a new transformer at the Meyer Substation in Dansville in Livingston County.

The new substation doubles the capacity at the site. Once completed this fall, the project will improve reliability, resiliency, and capacity for approximately 6,740 customers in the Village of Dansville and surrounding communities. 

 “The Meyer Substation was originally built in 1948 and has done a remarkable job serving customers for generations,” Marc Geaumont, president of NYSEG, said. “While this substation has been active for more than 70 years, the energy demands of today require modern infrastructure. These upgrades are essential to maintaining a strong grid, reducing outages, and helping customers stay connected during periods of extreme weather.” 

The Meyer Substation supports NYSEG’s transmission and distribution systems. It delivers energy to several smaller substations located throughout the company’s service area. 

This was the first phase of the project. The second phase upgrade is expected to begin by the end of this year. In the next phase, NYSEG will add two more transformers and redeploy a current transformer to help further increase capacity. Also, the company will install components that support future capacity growth. The second phase is expected to be completed in 2029.

These upgrades will strengthen the electric grid, improve service reliability, and provide the capacity needed to support future growth. As we continue to promote economic development in the southern portion of the 133rd Assembly District, investments like this help position our communities for new business opportunities, job creation, and long-term success.”

Upgraded infrastructure can help minimize outages, address immediate capacity needs, deploy more automation devices for resiliency, and other benefits to support New York’s energy goals.
