PLATTEKILL, N.Y. — A bus carrying nearly two dozen people rolled over on the Thruway on Tuesday morning, state police said.
Police say there were no life-threatening injuries after the rollover.
Authorities said that, as of 11 a.m., 17 passengers who were not injured were taken to a “reunification” center” while the remainder of the passengers were either being hospitalized or were still being treated at the scene.
Authorities said in a previous press release that approximately 23 people were aboard the bus when it crashed at milepost 69.5 between exits 17 and 18.
Police said both the southbound and northbound left lanes were blocked by the crash, with one lane in each direction remaining open to traffic. Authorities said the crash was leading to an approximately 4-mile traffic backup southbound and a 3-mile backup northbound.
Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.
Police said a heavy tow vehicle is on scene to remove the overturned bus, which came to a rest in the median of the highway.
A News 12 report identified the bus as a Wanda Coach Bus.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and more details will be provided as available.
