NEW YORK (PIX11) — Ground stops were issued at multiple New York City area airports as intense storms made their way to the tri-state.
Departures to John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark Airports were stopped on the ground Tuesday afternoon due to thunderstorms sweeping through the Midwest and heading for New York and New Jersey.

Flights to LaGuardia had massive ground delays too, averaging over two and a half hours due to thunderstorms, according to the FAA.
As of 12:30 p.m., there were over 300 combined delays between the three airports by destination, according to FlightAware data.
The ground stops at all three airports were expected to last through at least 3:30 p.m., the FAA website said.
