Manhattan Beach officials announced last week that Ramzi Awwad, Public Works Director for the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, would be taking the same position in Manhattan Beach. Awwad brings with him more than two decades of experience in city planning, public works management, and city engineering.
Awwad has a master’s degree in transportation and infrastructure systems engineering. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering management from Purdue University. Prior to his work in Los Angeles County, he spent more than a decade with Arlington County, Virginia, as transportation engineer. He also helped in the design of transportation engineering projects for a consulting firm and helmed the Highway Department for Carroll County, Indiana.
Awwad spent 6 years with Rancho Palos Verdes. The city during his tenure was faced with a variety of challenges due to landslides. As head of Public Works, Awwad was at the forefront of mitigating damage to city infrastructure and inovating engineering solutions for long term sustainability. He also helped oversee several capital and infrastructure projects. This includes the construction of the Ladera Linda Community Center. He was honored for his service to Rancho Pales Verdes at the July 7 council meeting.
He is now managing the Public Works Department of Manhattan Beach. He will manage streets, utilities, engineering, and the city’s capital improvement plan. Awwad said that he’s “really excited to contribute to this community, to get to know the community better, and work together with a variety of partners.”
