On July 21, 2026, at approximately 7:40 p.m., New York State Police at Homer arrested Daniel K. Layne, 26, of Cortland, for the misdemeanor of Driving While Ability Impaired.
Troopers responded to South Cortland Virgil Road in the town of Virgil to assist members of the Virgil Fire Department with an unconscious male seated behind the wheel of a 2023 Jeep Renegade.
Members of the Virgil Fire Department provided medical aid to the male, and the Trooper administered Naloxone. The driver regained consciousness and was identified as Layne. He declined medical transport to a hospital.
An investigation determined that Layne had been operating the vehicle while impaired. He was arrested and transported to SP Homer for processing.
Layne was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Virgil Town Court on August 25, 2026.
