THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — Multiple firefighters were sent to the hospital after a car exploded in the Bronx, according to the FDNY.

Video on Citizen showed a ball of flames glowing in the distance and smoke blowing from the area while multiple fire engines were on the scene. An additional video showed a large amount of trash burned next to a charred vehicle after the fire was put out.

According to the FDNY, a call came in for a reported car fire and explosion at 7:06 p.m. on Wednesday at 955 Westchester Ave. between Intervale Avenue and Kelly Street.

Sources say multiple vehicles and trash were set on fire.

Five firefighters were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. One firefighter is being treated for serious burns to the face, according to sources.

The NYPD is searching the area for a suspect.
