Swatch has just released their New York City-inspired tribute watch, CARSON TIME, in collaboration with local artist David Carson.

CARSON TIME is the latest release from the Swiss watch manufacturer. The timepiece features iconic New York imagery, with different subway lines and street signs decorating the front of the watch. The back features the writing “It’s now or never. Or later,” – the first Swatch release to showcase two distinct designs on one piece.

“NYC is so crazy alive with inspiration everywhere, and always chaotic yet somehow organized,” Carson said in a press release shared by Swatch. “This watch has a lot of words and also numbers, hints of letters, trains, colors. Its design, images of images, hopefully

gives a sense of what my senses absorb in the city […] On the back, I wanted a bit of NYC irreverence and its often dry sense of humor. In my artwork, I like people to discover something they didn’t notice at first glance.”

Carson is a 70-year-old graphic design artist and published author based in NYC. He is known for his chaotic, collage-like designs, revolutionizing the way typography and cropping are used in graphic design.

After founding his independent design firm, David Carson Design, he created designs for organizations such as Nike and Levi Strauss, even creating album covers for musical group Nine Inch Nails. The American Institute of Graphic Arts, or AIGA, awarded Carson a medial in 2014 in recognition of his contributions to the graphic design world.

The watch is part of the company’s Destination Art series, an initiative by the brand that collaborates with local artists to create destination-specific pieces. So far, Swatch has worked with artists ranging from Indonesia and Barcelona to Amsterdam and now, New York City.

The CARSON TIME watch will be available at select stores in NYC, including Swatch’s Times Square, SoHo, Grand Central Terminal and World Trade Center locations. It will also be available at Swatch’s Roosevelt Field store in Garden City, Long Island, and the New York-New York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Swatch is a leading watch manufacturer with a penchant for art. With this new release, the brand hopes to celebrate the vibrancy of New York City.

“From iconic subway signage, street posters, to urban textures and bursts of color, this watch reflects the nonstop pulse of the city that make New York unlike anywhere else,” the brand shared in a press release.
