BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Cristian Parano scored the only goal as San Antonio FC took a 1-0 victory against Brooklyn FC on Saturday night at Maimonides Park to remain in second place in the Western Conference.
The visitors carried more of the play in the first half and almost took the lead in the 28th minute when Christian Sorto’s shot from outside the box hit the right post, with Parano’s follow-up header being tipped over the crossbar by BKFC goalkeeper Lukas Burns. Parano broke the deadlock six minutes later, however, as he scored on the second attempt after Akeem Ward found him with a low cross from the right.
Brooklyn came into the game more after the halftime break and went close to an equalizer when Callum Frogson’s header was tipped wide of the right post by SAFC’s Joey Batrouni. The hosts put the ball in the net off the ensuing corner kick, but Markus Anderson was ruled offside as he tapped home from close range. That proved the closest BKFC came to finding an equalizer as San Antonio held firm for victory.
