A 45-year-old Norwood man has been arrested following the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy in the Mt. Eden section of The Bronx on Saturday, July 25.
Police said that Saturday, July 25, at around 4.55 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding three males who had been shot in front of 104 Elliot Place in Mt. Eden, within the confines of the 44th Precinct.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a 12-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, a 34-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the left foot, and a 25-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the buttocks,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the 12-year-old victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln where he was pronounced deceased.”
They said the 34-year-old male and the 25-year-old male were both transported to BronxCare Health System Hospital by private means and are listed in stable condition. There were initially no arrests and the investigation remained ongoing.
The deceased was later identified as Jacob Freytes from the Mt. Eden section of The Bronx.
On Sunday, July 26, pursuant to an ongoing investigation, police said William Ferrer, 45, of Norwood, was arrested on Sunday, July 26, at 11.04 a.m. in the confines of the 52nd Precinct which covers Norwood, among other Bronx neighborhoods.
They said Ferrer was charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, manslaughter, six counts of assault, and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Ferrer is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
