Ryan McCartan (Heathers The Musical, Wicked), who has played several stints as Jay Gatsby in Broadway’s The Great Gatsby, returns to the title role July 27 at the Broadway Theatre. He is joined by Great Gatsby national tour star Senzel Ahmady, who is making her Main Stem debut in the role of Daisy Buchanan for a limited engagement through August 2.
Ahmady and McCartan succeed the musical’s original star, two-time Tony nominee Eva Noblezada (Hadestown, Miss Saigon), and Grammy winner Reeve Carney (Hadestown, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark), who played their final performances as Daisy and Jay Gatsby July 26. Original Broadway cast member Samantha Pauly also played her final performance as Jordan Baker July 26.
As previously reported, China Anne McClain, best known for her work in the Descendants franchise as well as Black Lightning and A.N.T. Farm, will make her Broadway debut in The Great Gatsby beginning August 3. She will be Daisy opposite the Gatsby of McCartan.

swings.
Based on the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, The Great Gatsby features music and lyrics by Nathan Tysen (Paradise Square) and Jason Howland (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) and a book by Jonathan Larson Grant winner Kait Kerrigan (The Mad Ones). Marc Bruni (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) directs with choreography by Dominique Kelley (Mariah’s Magical Christmas Special).
Set in the Roaring ’20s, the musical follows eccentric millionaire
Jay Gatsby, who will stop at nothing in his tragic pursuit of Daisy
Buchanan, a wealthy young woman whom he loved in his youth.

The musical won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical.
