For many New Yorkers, noise is simply part of daily life — from construction and traffic to loud neighbors and late-night disturbances.
But a new analysis is taking a closer look at how the city tracks and responds to those complaints.
CUNY Law Professor Daniel Loehr reviewed more than a million 311 noise complaints filed through January of last year, examining where complaints come from and how they are categorized.
The analysis found that residential noise made up nearly half of all complaints, followed by noise from streets and sidewalks, commercial establishments, construction equipment and vehicles.
Loehr joined “Weekends On 1” to discuss what the data and what steps could help make the city a little quieter.
