PORT RICHMOND, Staten Island (PIX11) — A 20-year-old man was stabbed and beaten by a group of teens on his way to a Staten Island deli Monday night, according to police and the victim’s father.
The man was ambushed after the suspects pulled up in car near Heberdon and Post avenues in Port Richmond at around 7:20 p.m., according to the NYPD and the victim’s dad.
“I think he was at the wrong place at the wrong time,” the dad told PIX11 News.
The victim was visiting his sister and had gone to the deli to get something to eat. On his way, a car full of teenagers pulled up and asked what he was doing there before he was attacked, the father said.
Police said one of the suspects asked, “Where are you from?” Before he could answer, he was stabbed multiple times with a kitchen knife, police said. The rest of the crew then repeatedly punched the man, cops said.
The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crew then fled in a gray Honda and were last seen heading west on Post Avenue, police said.
It was unclear what prompted the attack, but investigators don’t believe it was a hate crime.
There have been no arrests.
There have been 559 felony assaults on Staten Island this year, according to NYPD data.
