Meghan Markle stepped out in Los Angeles last night to attend a special screening of Cookie Queens, a documentary about Girl Scouts, in Los Angeles. It marks her first public appearance since traveling to Geneva in May, though she recently shared photographs of her family’s summer vacation on Instagram.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex served as executive producers on the film, which was directed by Alysa Nahmias. For the event, she kept it casual in a monochrome white outfit and Hermès Santorini sandals.

After the film, she participated in a Q&A, and in response to a question, Meghan said, “I was thinking about something my husband told me ages ago, we all go through experiences, life is full of surprises. But, you know, he was a helicopter pilot in the British Army for ten years. And sometimes on really hard days, he was like, ‘My love, you know, even if there’s a storm happening, above the storm, the sun’s always shining.’ And that’s a perspective that only comes from zooming out a little bit.”
She continued, “So I think if you really zoom out and think, ‘My gosh, how many things have we gone through that felt hard and then we still get through them. Or how many goals do you think you’re not going to hit and you hit them—or you supersede them! So it’s so important to maintain that perspective, that no matter what feels insurmountable, there’s always that sunshine above.”

The film follows four ambitious Girl Scouts as they sell cookies, and had its premiere at Sundance Film Festival in January. “One interesting thing that we love about the personal connection is Meghan was a Girl Scout herself, and her mom was her troop leader,” director Nahmias told People. “Actually, she’s in the same council as Nikki and her sisters — Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles. That’s where Meghan grew up, participating in the same Girl Scout council.”
Nahmias added, “That’s in addition to her really loving all the girls’ stories and understanding the bigger, more universal storylines in the film.”
