BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — For the first time in New York City’s history, there will be a designated festival celebrating Jamaican culture.
The celebration will kick off at 11 a.m. from Bob Marley Boulevard (Church Avenue and Flatbush Avenue) in Brooklyn on August 8.
The parade was organized by the Jamaica Rising Day Parade organization and will transform Brooklyn’s streets into a vibrant display of black, green and gold, featuring cultural groups, schools, churches, community organizations, elected officials, local vendors offering traditional culinary, entertainers, marching bands, youth organizations, athletes and more.
The event is expected to draw thousands under the theme “Jamaica Rising: One People. One Legacy. One Future.”
The parade will kick off at Church Avenue and proceed north along Flatbush Avenue, through the heart of Brooklyn, home to one of the largest Jamaican communities outside Jamaica.
The parade is free and open to the public.
