NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — If you ever found yourself in need of a drink or snack break in the middle of a long commute, you may be able to grab something to hold you over.
Former retail spaces in 26 New York City subway stations will be transformed into vending machines in the next two years, the MTA announced on Thursday.
The machines, outfitted to look like a New York City subway map, were already unveiled at Second Avenue station, serving the F train in the Bowery, the 23rd Street station serving the R and W trains in Flatiron and the 116th Street station serving the No. 6 train in Harlem.

“By turning vacant retail spaces into customer amenities, we are activating a space into one customers can benefit from,” said MTA Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara. “We’re making stations more welcoming and more convenient, and we look forward to the installation of more vending machines and greater variety.”
The transit agency’s five-year partnership with CC Vending, Inc. will also allow vending machines to be stocked with retail merchandise, technology, health and beauty products and other convenience items.
