Bronx 250th Quilt

The Kingsbridge Historical Society, at 2570 Independence Ave., invites you to check out the newly sewn Bronx 250th Quilts Sunday, Aug. 9 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Bronx residents worked together to produce two quilts depicting significant places, people, and stories from our communities. The project was led by teaching artist Tijay Mohammed, in collaboration with the Kingsbridge Historical Society and Riverdale Senior Services.

Walk Against Hate

The Riverdale Y invites you to join “The Walk Against Hate Bronx” at noon on Saturday, Aug. 8. The community-based program unites Bronx residents to promote inclusion, build connections across communities, promote walking and stand united against hate. The meeting place is Van Cortlandt Park, 80 Van Cortlandt Park South.

Nature Story Time

The Van Cortlandt Park Alliance invites you to join the urban park rangers and their puppet friends for stories inspired by nature. Park rangers and participants will meet in the Van Cortlandt park at the Indian Field, at East 233rd St. and Jerome Ave. 

The program takes place Saturday, Aug. 8 from 11 a.m. to noon. It is free of cost and no registration is required. For more information visit vancortlandt.org. 

Dog Days of Summer Hike

Head to Van Cortlandt Park, at Broadway and Mosholu Ave., Sunday, Aug. 9, bring your dog and hike the trails from 11 a.m. to noon. On this dog-friendly hike, experience nature with your dog while learning about the importance of parks rules and regulations regarding pets.

All dogs and dog lovers are welcome. No registration is required for the free hike. For more information visit vancortlandt.org. 

Family Art Project: Monet’s Magnificent Pond

Head to Wave Hill, 4900 Independence Ave., on Saturday, Aug. 8 to dive into the world of artist Claude Monet and his water lilies. Families will create their very own mixed-media paintings, inspired by Wave Hill’s aquatic garden. 

The program runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free with admission to the grounds. Families will meet at the Wave Hill House. Registration is not required. For more information visit Wavehill.org.
