WILLIAMSBURG — AS FEDERAL SNAP BENEFITS remain suspended during the government shutdown, M.S. 50 in South Williamsburg is doubling its efforts to fight hunger among students and families, according to a feature in PIX11. Principal Benjamin Honoroff, now in his 11th year, said the school has expanded partnerships with El Puente and local food banks while using Title I funds to distribute grocery vouchers and FreshDirect deliveries.

Serving 415 students, the school’s community model addresses “[the] whole student, the whole family.” Honoroff said, “The work is built on work from before, and the work is going to continue. If we see an uptick, we will meet those needs.”
