NEW YORK (PIX11) — The costs of riding public transit in New York City could be going up in the upcoming year, according to the MTA’s preliminary budget.
New Yorkers could see a 4% fare increase and a toll increase as early as 2027, according to the budget.
A PowerPoint Presentation obtained by PIX11 News shows the transit giant suggesting a price hike for riders. Other key notes are that the transit giant is down by $30 million in revenue for the first half of 2026.
Though the agency is down in revenue, other key details noted in the presentation show operating expenses are below budget by $147 million for the year, and operating efficiencies of over $576 million are on track to be delivered, according to the MTA.
Though the price hike has been mentioned, the agency must go through a series of public comments and get approval to implement one.
The most recent fare increase took place in January 2026, raising the price from $2.90 to $3.00.
