Officials said New York City tipping rules now require apps to show tipping options before checkout and include a minimum suggested 10 percent, affecting Uber Eats and DoorDash.On Wednesday, July 30, Mamdani called the delivery apps tipping increase a “$104 million victory.” Business Insider reported tipping rates have doubled and estimated about $2,287 more per worker per year. Critics said customers are paying more, and DoorDash and Uber, who sued before the rules took effect, argued the policies pressure customers; DoorDash called the city’s assertions “flat out wrong.”
