From Juilliard to the Joyce, the classic arts scene in New York is never quiet. Here is just a sampling of some of the classic arts events happening this week.

The Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center presents Inside the Music: A Musical Deep Dive with Jonathon Heyward on August 5 at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall. The evening will include a performance of Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 1, as well as the world premiere of Hannah Ishizaki’s Change Thy Course. Conductor Jonathan Heyward will lead a discussion about both works.

The California-based Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra will come to Lincoln Center for a concert at Alice Tully Hall August 6, with countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, soprano Lauren Snouffer, and bass-baritone Dashon Burton. Peter Whelan will conduct the program, including selections from Handel’s Water Music, as well as arias from some of his operas and oratorios. A few selections by Caroline Shaw will round out the program.

The Juilliard Orchestra and the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra join forces at Alice Tully Hall on August 2 for a concert led by conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen. The program will include Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements, Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, and Berg’s Violin Concerto with soloist Vilde Frang.

The Joyce Theater’s annual ballet festival returns to the Chelsea venue August 4-16. The two-week festival is curated this year by Misty Copeland, featuring performances by dancers from New York City Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and more. The festival will include works choreographed by Bob Fosse, Rudolf Nureyev, Kyle Abraham, José Limón, Aleisha Walker, and more.

Nosky’s Baroque Band, let by director and violinist Aisslin Nosky, will give a free concert at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park on August 4. The concert includes Telemann’s Burlesque de Quixotte Suite, as well as violin concertos by Bach and Torello; trumpet concertos by Torelli and Telemann, with soloist Steve Marquardt; and Corelli’s Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 10.
