QUEENS — At least two cars were crushed by falling trees in Queens and there were reports of several other trees down across the city as the worst of the storms moved through the Tri-State area on Monday.
A tree fell on a truck in South Richmond Hill and a Mercedes sedan in Bellerose.
Despite the damage, the car’s owner was in good spirits.
“It’s alright, because you know, at least nothing happened, right, it didn’t fall on the house, otherwise it would be a really big disaster,” said Roland Vergel de Dios.
There were reports of other trees down across New York City, including in Gramercy where a downed tree blocked off East 18th Street near Second Avenue.
On Long Island, a large tree fell onto the LIRR tracks in Smithtown. A train crashed into the tree, smashing the window to the engineer’s compartment.
One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Meanwhile in Westport, Connecticut, a charter bus had its window broken when a tree came down on I-95 around 6:45 a.m.
Sixteen people were onboard at the time and a few passengers suffered minor injuries.
While most of the rain has moved out of the area, flooding still remains a concern for Monday evening.
