But current co-pays still in place

The city and EmblemHealth will pay $53 million to 250,000 public-sector retirees enrolled in EmblemHealth’s GHI Senior Care plan who were charged $15 co-pays for medical visits and treatments between January 2022 and January 2023 under a settlement finalized this month. The agreement resolves a class action lawsuit brought by the New York City Organization of Public Sector Retirees who pursued the suit on behalf of all Medicare-eligible retired city workers.
Marianne Pizzitola, president of the NYCOPSR, noted in an interview Monday that while she sees the suit as a victory for retirees, they still must pay co-pays for their visits and treatments under a change to the city’s contract with EmblemHealth instituted in early 2025 by the administration of former Mayor Eric Adams.
