The Town of Grand Island has given permission to the Environmental Protection Agency and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to conduct radiological assessments at town-owned or town-controlled properties.
The assessments were unanimously approved at Monday’s town board meeting.
According to DEC officials, Veterans Park on Bedell Road has been flagged as a location for testing. This comes as the organizations have been actively surveying homes and properties in and around Niagara County.
So far, the organizations pollution has been discovered at around 120 homes in the area.
A public informational meeting will take place Monday, Aug. 10, from 3-7 p.m.
