NEW YORK (PIX11) — The risk of rain showers is making a return to the tri-state region, and the chances will linger for the rest of the week.
Humidity levels will be sky-high, bringing the threat of localized downpours that may lead to flooding.

For now, humidity levels will be on the tolerable side for Tuesday evening. Overnight temperatures will be in the upper 60s, under partly cloudy skies.
Wednesday will feature partly sunny skies. During the afternoon and evening, some spotty showers may begin to flare up, especially for inland areas. Expect temperatures to be in the lower 80s.
Temperatures will rise into the upper 80s on Thursday, but the high levels of humidity will make it feel like well into the 90s during the afternoon. Shower chances will increase, especially during the latter part of the day, along with the chance of localized downpours.
The unsettled pattern looks to continue into Friday and Saturday. Most of the time, it will be just partly cloudy and very humid as temperatures rise into the upper 80s to around 90 degrees. The heat index will continue to be well into the 90s each afternoon. The heat and humidity will continue to cause scattered storms to flare up each day in the afternoon or evening.
The storm threat will back off on Sunday, but it will remain hot as temperatures near 90 degrees.
The hot and humid stretch with afternoon storms looks to resume during the early part of next week before things settle down by next Wednesday or Thursday.
