Last month, WIRED magazine published an article alleging that Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corporation maintained an internal database of about 40,000 VIP guests, including information about their race, sexual orientation and gender identity.
According to the article, 93 of those VIP guests were labeled as “LGBTQIA” and others have a risk level attached to their name ranging from “flag,” to low, medium and high risk.
One week after the article was published, MSG filed a lawsuit claiming that the article falsely implied that the arena tracks and discriminates against its gay guests and that the “defendants knew there was no nefarious list of gay celebrities.”
Noah Shachtman, who was a co-author of the article and has written extensively about surveillance in the arena, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday to discuss more.
He was included in the defamation lawsuit as a defendant.
