MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – Four teens have been arrested in connection with a school burglary that was reported this past weekend in Manhattan, officials announced Wednesday morning.
The incident was reported around 12:05 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at Oliver Brown Elementary School, located in the 4000 block of Jackies Way on the northeast side of Manhattan. The school is located in a part of Manhattan that is in Pottawatomie County.
Officials with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office were notified early Sunday afternoon of a report of a past break-in at the school.
Three of the teens arrested in a burglary of a Manhattan elementary school were identified as, from left, Lane Mathies, 18, of St. George; Gabriel Summerlin, 19, of Manhattan; and Kody Kemp II, 18, of Ogden. Pottawatomie County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and were able to determine that four individuals had made unauthorized access to the school and caused more than $3,000 worth of damage to school property, officials said.
Detectives were able to identify all four individuals and all four individuals were arrested between Aug. 3 and Aug. 4, said Pottawatomie County Sheriff Doug Adams.
All four were arrested in connection with burglary; felony criminal damage to property; criminal trespass; and contributing to a child’s misconduct
Three of the arrested individuals were identified as:
• Lane Mathies, 18, of St. George, who was released from the Pottawatomie County Jail in Westmoreland after posting a $15,000 bond.
• Gabriel Summerlin, 19, of Manhattan, who remained Wednesday in the Pottawatomie County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
• Kody Kemp II, 18, of Ogden, who remained Wednesday in the Pottawatomie County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
• A 16-year-old boy from Manhattan was taken into custody on charges of burglary; felony criminal damage to property; and criminal trespass.
Adams said the boy’s name wasn’t being released and that he was turned over to Juvenile Intake.
Adams said the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Riley County Police Department for its assistance with the case.
